PandaPlate - Privacy Policy
PandaPlate ("the App") is published by the creator linked at jackboyman.com/links. This document explains what the App stores on your device and what optional network requests it may make when online.
Summary
PandaPlate stores meal preferences, recipes, weekly plans, and shopping check-offs on your device. There is no account system and no sign-in. The App does not sell your data, show ads, or use third-party analytics or trackers.
Optional network: When online, the App may make HTTPS requests to Open Prices (Open Food Facts) for grocery price estimates, to TheMealDB for optional recipe imports, and to image hosts for recipe or product thumbnails. If the device is offline, seed recipes and seed price estimates still work.
What the App stores on your device
All core storage happens locally on your Android device:
| Data | Where it is stored | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen appliances, supermarket choice, likes/avoids, household size | Local on-device storage | Personalize meal suggestions and shopping estimates |
| Saved recipes and weekly meal plan | Local on-device storage | Plan meals and keep recipes you saved |
| Shopping list check state, extras, and optional beverages | Local on-device storage | Track what to buy for the week |
| Cached recipe imports (TheMealDB) and cached grocery price lookups | Local on-device storage | Reuse recent imports and price estimates without repeated requests |
When you uninstall the App, Android deletes all of this data.
What the App does NOT collect
- No name, email address, phone number, or account sign-in.
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone, or files from other apps (beyond optional network image loads described below).
- No crash telemetry, advertising, or third-party analytics SDKs.
- No cookies or web tracking inside the App for advertising.
Network access
PandaPlate does not require an account. When online, the App may make HTTPS requests for:
| Service | What is sent / requested | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Open Prices (Open Food Facts) | Product barcode (GTIN) and store preference filters; no login | Estimate grocery costs |
| TheMealDB | Optional “load more recipes” imports (recipe text and images); API key configured at build time | Import additional recipes when you choose |
| Recipe / product images | Standard network requests when loading thumbnails | Show recipe or product pictures |
If the device is offline, seed recipes and seed price estimates still work.
The App may also hand off an ACTION_VIEW intent to your default browser if you open
Links or Privacy Policy in Settings; at that point your browser,
not PandaPlate, is handling the request.
Permissions
Network features need internet access when you use optional price lookups, recipe imports, or image loads. Core meal planning works with the local data on your device. The App does not use network access to build advertising profiles.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13. It contains no ads, no real-money in-app purchases, and no open chat or public posting features.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes (for example, new cloud features), the updated version will be published at jackboyman.com/panda-plate-privacy-policy and referenced from the Play Store listing before the update rolls out.
